My Scheerhorn resonator guitars

This is an L-body curly maple guitar which I picked up from Tim on 3/29/02. A month or so later I visited Mike Auldridge for a lesson and he tried out the guitar. This is what he thought of it. NOTE - the playing you hear in this clip is most definitely not Mike, but is me playing Mike's Guernsey - a very fine guitar also!

To get an idea of what this Scheerhorn really sounds like, listen to Mike playing it by clicking here (1.2 meg).

Rob Ickes tested out the new guitar at Merlefest 2002 and pronounced it fit as well...too bad I don't have a sound clip of that! At least I have this picture, thanks to Pat Casey (that's Pat on the right!).

When I took delivery of the maple 'horn, I ordered another guitar...I had a feeling the price was going up, and figured the waiting list was going to get longer as well, due to some good publicity Tim got on CMT.

I originally ordered mahogany/spruce, but as the delivery date got closer, and after I tried Tim's personal mahogany/cedar, I decided to go with Indian rosewood / spruce. I've been very happy with this guitar as well, and the sound is as you'd expect compared to the maple: richer bass response, less bite, but plenty loud. It's another great guitar. I picked it up in April of 2004, so it was just over a two year wait. The wait now is approximately 4 years.

Several people have been wanting me to put pictures of it on the web, and I finally got around to it...here they are:

Here's a closeup showing the herringbone trim and abalone fret inlays. I've got pearl fret inlays on the maple guitar - I think the abalone looks better, but the pearl may be easier to see in low light.

I really liked the sound of my James guitar, but after attending the Rockygrass Academy in 2001, I decided I had to have a Scheerhorn. Played side-by-side, the Scheerhorn has even more of everything that the James has...and the James is no slouch.
